Miss North Yorkshire organisers offered Miss North Yorkshire 2017, Ellie Newton the opportunity of a lifetime, to travel 5* ALL EXPENSES PAID for 2.5 weeks, to represent England at the 28th World Miss University competition in Cambodia!! Ellie is joined by Miss North Yorkshire 2018 finalists, Amelia and Molly to complete team UK!

The girls boarded their Emirates flight from Newcastle airport to Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh almost 2 weeks ago and there is now just 2 days to go until the big Live International Final where one of the 100 delegates from around the World will be crowned the 28th World Miss University and win a fabulous scholarship!!

Over the 2 weeks in the competition, as well as making friends from all over the world, Ellie and the girls have had the opportunity to visit Cambodia's famous sights including the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat and the Kings Palace, as well as volunteering in a local orphanage of which Ellie said, "Today we had the most eye opening experience I think I have ever had. We visited this gorgeous group of children, who some had no families and others no education until now. They have been taken in from the streets of Cambodia, where they were made to work from as young as the age of 2. They are now being given a full education and so many opportunities. It's crazy the life that we really do take for granted."

In between photoshoots and rehearsals for the live final, Ellie and the girls have also taken part in a peace and environmental forums and got to experience traditional Cambodian dance and entertainment. Of her experience Ellie has said, "It's been an experience of a lifetime, the Angkor Wat was amazing and they put on a candlelit party for us which was incredible!"

A HUGE Good Luck to Ellie, Amelia and Molly in for the international finals, we know they will do Miss North Yorkshire and the UK proud!!! Stay tuned on our Miss North Yorkshire Facebook page for the latest updates and photos!

We caught up with the newly crowned Miss North Yorkshire 2017, Ellie Newton:

What was going through your mind when you heard your name called as the winner of Miss North Yorkshire 2017?

I was in so much shock! I honestly couldn't believe it - I had worked so hard and all I could think about was my amazing year ahead and the start to my new adventure. I still to this day sometimes don't believe it, I really am very proud.

What have you been up to since you won the title?

What haven't I been up to! I have been so busy prepping and planning for the upcoming year and I have managed to organise my first event which is a Disney Ball. I am also attending many charity events in the upcoming future so be sure to keep a look out!

What are you most looking forward to about your reigning year?

I am honesty so excited about the upcoming year, I have so much planned! If I had to pick one thing that I am the most excited about, it would have to be supporting my chosen charities and hoping to reach my target of £2000. I also have to say that I am extremely excited about judging the other pageants and making appearances with my sash and crown!

What is your Top Beauty Tip?

I would have to say my best beauty tip would be something that my nana taught me, and that is to always cleanse your face before taking off your makeup. It helps to prevent wrinkles and works magic when taking off your makeup

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of entering Miss North Yorkshire?

My advice for anyone entering Miss North Yorkshire would be to really go for it! Push the boat out and really embrace every moment of it. I would recommend it to every girl out there as it really is a chance to shine, build up your confidence and raise some money for some amazing causes.
